Apple Chui Pui Yi
BSc HKUST; M.Phil, PhD CUHK
Dr. Apple Chui is a lecturer in the School of Life Sciences, CUHK. She received undergraduate training in biology from HKUST, master and doctoral training in environmental science and biology from CUHK. As part of her research, she has completed more than 800 dives observing coral spawning, recruitment development and changes in coral diverstiy in Hong Kong. Her contribution to coral research work in Hong Kong has been recognised as evidenced by various scholarships and conference presentation awards she has received, including the Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fellowships in 2013 and 2014, the best oral presentation in the 4th Cross Strait Workshop on Coral Reef Biology and Marine Protected Area in 2011, the best student presentation award (first prize) at the 3rd Asia Pacific Coral Reef Symposium in 2014, the Professor John Gray Memorial Award for the Best Student Oral Presentation in the 8th International Conference on Marine Pollution and Ecotoxicology in 2016, and the best poster award in the Croucher Advanced Study Institute: Impacts of Eutrophication, Pollution and Harmful Benthic Microalgae Blooms on Coastal Coral Reef Ecosystems in 2017.
As a devoted conservationist, Apple also actively volunteers in marine conservation related activities. Thoughout the years, she has been invited to speak for over 40 public seminars on marine and coral conservation for various organisations, including schools, AFCD, WWFHK, RTHK and Hong Kong Science Museum. She has also been involved with Reef Check Hong Kong as team scientist since 2008. Hope you have fun exploring her research, publications, and adventures.
